BROADCAST LIVE REPORT BY JOAN STRIBLING DE'LAUNAY
The exhibition is divided into three key areas content, manage and deliver with industry experts, including Channel4s Angus Macqueen, ITV Consumers Jeff Henry and the BBCs Paul Cheesbrough speaking at the three dedicated conference days. Onto the show floor there were three feature areas to reflect the create-manage-deliver tapeless workflow process in action. Live content was filmed at the show, and one could see and experiment with different technologies and communicate with specialists during the workflow process. At the Create stage there was a working sound stage with HD and tapeless cameras; and at the deliver stage one could explore the final delivery of content including HD broadcast and vodcasting. Free training was also on offer. and the conference programme included make-up and prosthetics demonstrations.Broadcast Live is an opportunity to equip oneself with the tools, skills and knowledge and to discover the challenges facing the broadcasting industry in general.
My role is that of freelance film and television make-up, hair prosthetics designer. I went to the Broadcast Live event to gain further knowledge, and to network. The Broadcast Live Event is a showcase for the latest equipment within broadcasting, film and television. High Definition a medium I have already worked in seems to be the most important change in broadcasting-style at present and it was demonstrated on the wide range of stands at the event. Because of its clarity, it is less forgiving i.e. imperfections within my craft, such as a wig hairlace showing; insufficient blending of make-up, for character and straight looks, glue shine etc, are more noticeable. As a make-up designer it is a great benefit to be able to discuss with producers and directors and other crew technicians the latest techniques with broadcasting equipment. These days there are major technical developments, which are set to have a huge impact on productions.Television is changing rapidly with the worldwide roll of HD and the interaction of new delivery formats like IPTV and the mobile TV. These new platforms are adding to the complexity of television playout and also continuing to increased competition for viewers. Significant changes to television operations are also being driven by the ongoing consideration of television facilities, brought about new digital technologies, which are lowering costs and revolutionising traditional workflow. Different television system was being advertised and demonstrated at the Broadcast Live Event; Miranda was one. This system delivers multi-format television; used by the worlds major broadcasters and television service providers, who demand the highest level of product quality and responsive support services for continuous operation. The aim is to help television engineers manage increasing complexity; to consolidate operations with their advanced end-to-end monitoring and control system, their channel branding systems are designed for the automated playout of instantly recognisable, high impact television. They also deliver engaging on-air promotional graphics to help retain television viewers.
The Broadcast Live Show has proved to be an invaluable annual event for people working in the Film and television industry; both as a showcase for new technology and as a networking event; as much of the work within the industry thrives on contacts. I personally use the event both; to promote myself, circulate my cv and website details google Joan Stribling deLaunay. The film and television industry is fast moving and it is necessary to have current knowledge to be a success within it . to this end , I shall make it an annual visit.
